Sports deptt celebrates 6th International Yoga Day through virtual platforms

Thousand of young Yoga enthusiasts, employees Of YSS participate from home

 

 

Due to COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing norms being followed, the Department of Youth Services and Sports celebrated the 6th International Yoga Day across J&K with enthusiasm while utilising different platforms of social and virtual media.

Advisor to Lieutenant Governor  Farooq Khan who has supervised the preparations and celebration of International Yoga Day by the Department Of Youth Services and Sports, has expressed his joy over the mass participation of young school going children from all the zones and districts of J&K in the activities related to Yoga Day.

Khan said that it was heartwarming to see social media platforms flooded with the pictures of young students and people of different age groups sharing their pictures and videos of performing different asanas of Yoga.

Secretary to government Youth Services and Sports Department, Sarmad Hafeez while congratulating the field staff of the department for making the programme a great success despite all the limitations due to pandemic said that we must encourage young blood to adopt Yoga for a better physical and mental well-being.

Hafeez described Yoga exercises the best toll for overall development of a person and stressed upon it’s practising in all the educational institutions when normal functioning of   schools becomes possible.  

Director General of the Department of Youth Services and Sports Dr Saleem ur Rehman while highlighting the importance and need of Yoga for one all has said that it is one of the best ways to boost our physical and mental health.

“The best part is that we don't require any type of equipment, we just need some space and a mat. We can practice Yoga anytime from the comfort of our home,” Rehman said.

“For better health, fit body, and a sharp mind, inclusion of Yoga class is need of the hour in every educational institution and the department of YSS would take every possible initiative to make it happen,” he said.

The department of YSS is also running a massive campaign on its Twitter handle, official Facebook page and YouTube channel to disseminate information to the common folks and students in particular about the proper way and method of practicing different Yoga Asnas while describing its benefits as well.
