: As a part of its beautification drive, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is planning to install 148 fountains in the upcoming season at all major junctions of the city.
An official at SMC wishing anonymity told Rising Kashmir that they are mulling to install 148 new fountains in all 74 wards of the city.
“The proposal was approved during a recent meeting of Finance and Planning Standing Committee in January this year held in Srinagar,” the official said.
Apart from fountains, the other projects approved for Srinagar city includes high-quality lights for 370 graveyards and cremation grounds.
The official said that there is a separate budget of 45 lakhs for development of each ward in the city.
“The budget for developmental works would be identified by Corporators in their respective wards,” the official said.
He also informed that SMC has got approval for purchasing 20 vehicles for snow clearance operations in the city, while as same vehicles can be used maintaining public parks during summers.
As per the official, the committee has also approved funds for the construction of eight residential units at Leper Colony area of Lal Bazar.
To overcome the public pressure at SMC headquarters, he said SMC is mulling to construct at least 14 e-ward offices.
Another official at SMC said they have also got approval for procurement of 3 lakh twin coloured dustbin pairs for Srinagar to segregate waste at the source.
“We have also got also approval procurement of 2500 pushcarts, 195, hooper vehicles, 2,800 new compactor bins for enhanced waste management for door-to-door waste collection,” the official said.
“The other things including approval for 38 sweeping and vacuum machines, 15 water-sprinkling tankers for dust control,” he added.
