Students demand rapist’s hanging; clash with cops
There was not let up in protests in Valley against rape of 3-year-old girl in Bandipora. The students of different educational institutions in Valley Tuesday protested against the rape of a 3-year-old girl in Bandipora. The students were demanding justice to the victim and stern punishment to the accused.
The agitating students also clashed with the force personnel.
The Students of Amar Singh (AS) College Srinagar staged protest in the college campus against the rape of the minor girl.
Carrying placards and banners, the protesting students were demanding death penalty to the accused.
Some of the students came out of the college premises to protest against the rape of minor girl.
The students clashed with the police and CRPF men, who were deployed in strength outside the college.
The forces fired teargas smoke shells to disperse the protesting students, who pelted stones on them.
Police detained two students during the protest.
The locals alleged that forces vandalised two motorcycles outside the AS College.
The students of Kashmir Law College Nowshera Srinagar also took out a protest rally. They were demanding immediate and stern punishment to the accused involved in rape of a 3-year-old girl in Bandipora district.
The MBBS students of SKIMS Medical College in Bemina assembled in the College premises and staged a peaceful protest against the incident.
The protesting students were demanding awarding of death penalty to the accused.
“We are protesting against the inhuman act. The culprit must be punished as per law,” a protesting undergraduate student said.
The students of various departments of University of Kashmir took out a peaceful protest rally inside the campus to express solidarity with the rape victim and demand stern punishment to the accused.
The students of Boniyar Higher Secondary School in Uri in north Kashmir also took out a peaceful protest march.
The students of Government Degree College Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district skipped their classes and took out a protest march from the college campus to main market Kangan.
The protesters were carrying placards reading, ‘'Justice for Victim and Hang the Rapist”.
“The rapist should be hanged to death,” the protestors demanded.
Apprehending law and order problems, several educational institutions were closed by respective district authorities across the valley on Tuesday as a precautionary measure.
In Baramulla district, all schools in tehsil Pattan and Singhpora were shut, while Degree College and higher secondary schools in Baramulla and Sopore towns also remained closed, the officials said.
They said all government educational institutions including schools and colleges of tehsil Sonawari in Bandipora district also remained closed, while Government Degree College Ganderbal, government girls and boys higher secondary schools in Ganderbal town were also closed.
Class work remained suspended at Government Degree Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools in Anantnag and Bijbhera towns of district Anantnag on Tuesday, the officials said.
The authorities also ordered suspension of class work in Government Degree College Shopian and in Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), the officials said.
Groups of students, lawyers and various NGOs also held protests at the Press Enclave here, demanding exemplary punishment to the accused.
