NIA chargesheets LeT militants arrested in Gulmarg

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, who were arrested in Gulmarg area in north Kashmir's Baramulla district last year.
According to NIA, the charge sheet was filed on February 15 against two LeT militants Khalil Ahmad Kayani, 34, son of Abdul Aziz Kayani and Mohammad Nazeem, 23, son of Mohammad Arif Khan, both residents Tedaban village in district Haveli Farwad Kahuta in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
They have been charge sheeted before the NIA Special Court, Jammu under section 120 B of RPC, section 13, 18, 20, 23 and 39 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Section 7, 25 of Arms Act, Section 4, 5 of Explosives Substances Act and Section 3 and 3A of Egress and Internal Movement (Control) Ordinanec, 2005.
The two LeT militants were arrested near Nilkanth Nala, some 700 meters in Kashmir side of Line of Control in Gulmarg Sector of Baramulla district, NIA said.
It said arms, ammunition, grenades, Improvised Explosive Device material including explosives and detonators, Pakistan made medicine and eatable items etc. were recovered by Indian Army from the forest area, at the instance of the two militants on August 21 in 2019.
Initially, FIR No. 10/2019 was registered at Police Station Gulmarg with regard to the arrest of the duo on September 07 last year.
However, later the NIA registered the case RC-05/2019/ NIA/JMU on September 23 after receiving an order from Ministry of Hime Affairs to take over the investigation of the case.
NIA spokesman said the investigation has revealed that accused Kayani and Nazeem were in contact of their handler of LeT and Pakistani Army in PaK.
"Both were engaged in the task of concealing the arms ammunitions, explosives etc. across the LoC in the forest area this side for the use by Pakistani militants to carry out militant activities in India," he said adding further investigation was underway in the case.
In September last year, the General Officer Commanding (GoC) of Srinagar-based Army’s 15 Corps, Lt General KJS Dhillon had said that the two militants were arrested during an anti-militancy operation in Gulmarg area.
The Army had also released video recorded confessions the militants who revealed their association with LeT, received arms training in Pak and infiltrated into this side to carry out an attack.
