Natipora-Baghat iron foot-bridge damaged, locals aghast

Scores of commuters on Sunday expressed resentment against Roads and Building department (R&B) for not repairing Natipora-Baghat foot-bridge for the past several years causing inconvenience to commuters.

As per locals, R&B department has failed to repair Natipora-Baghat iron foot-Bridge leading to Bone and Joint Hospital, which has caused inconvenience to the locals.

A local Nazir Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that the officials don't seem in the mood to repair the bridge. "Anyone can see the damage in this bridge due to various factors as it is made up of iron, which after coming into contact with water, has caused corrosion on its surface," he added.

“If the R&B department kept unnoticing the damage to this bridge, one day this bridge shall lead to a big mishap,” he said.

Another local Zameer Ahmad said that once he stumbled on the bridge leading to injury on his foot.

“This iron footbridge is dangerous for our children as they have to pass through this bridge,” he said.

Another commuter, Ghulam Mohammad said that there are potholes at both ends of the bridge where water accumulates due to minimal rainfall.

Locals appealed the concerned R&B officials to look into the matter and redress this issue before the foot-bridge is completely damaged.

While talking to Rising Kashmir, Chief Engineer R&B department, Showkat Jeelani Pandit said that he has been posted recently and "will look into the matter personally."
