Muzamil wins Islamia College road race

Muzamil Hussain of B. Com 5th Semester won the Islamia College Annual Road Race 2019 by covering the entire distance of 4 kilometers in a record time of 14:36.02 minutes to finish first in the Annual College Road Race event for the year 2019. Last year, Muzamil had clocked the same race in 14.50 minutes thus improving his and colleges’ previous best timing.
The event was organised by the Department of Physical Education, Islamia College of Science and Commerce Srinagar.
College Convener Prof. Shamim Ahmad Shamim, Member Sports Committee Prof. Nasreen Chasti flagged off the race at 6 am from Nishat crossing which finished at Duck Park while moving via Teilbal Fore Shore Road. 120 students of the college took part in the event with great enthusiasm.
The students displayed lot of excitement and zeal, as the college staff especially on duty for the purpose, encouraged them enroute.
Suhail Nisar of B.Com 5th Sem and Ali Mohammad Bhat of B. Com 2nd Sem claimed the second and third place with timings of 15:22:09 minutes and 16:38:67 minutes respectively.
Aijaz Hussain of B. Com 2ndSem claimed 4th place with the timings of 17:05:65 minutes and Touseef Ahmad of BBA 2nd Sem claimed 5th place with the timings of 17:14:61 minutes respectively.
After the culmination of the race, a simple but impressive prize distribution ceremony was held at Duck Park, Garden, at the beautiful banks of the world famous Dal Lake.
The prizes were given away to the first five position holders by Prof. Shamim Ahmed, Prof. Nasreen Qureshi Prof. Mohammad Hanif members Sports Committee of the College.
In their speeches, they also encouraged students to take part in the sports activities in and outside the college.
They insisted the participants to involve themselves whole heartedly in the sports events which are being organized in the College particularly the Inter-Group and Inter-College sports tournaments and adventure activities during the year.
After the award ceremony Prof M Hanif presented the vote of thanks. The Annual College Cycle Race for Islamia College students is scheduled to be held on 30th of April 2019.
All the members of college sports committee and the staff of the Department of Physical Education of the College were actively involved on the occasion to organize the event successfully.
