Mutup is new LAHDC, Leh Chairman

Leh, Feb 19:

 In an uncontested election, Dorjey Mutup, the sitting Executive Councillor for education representing Kyungam constituency was elected unopposed as the next Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh on Monday at Council Secretariat Hall.
Dorjey Mutup would assume the charge as the 7th Chairman and CEC of LAHDC, Leh.
Of the four Executive Councillors, only one new Executive Councillor Gyal P Wangyal representing Sakti constituency was inducted in place of Dorjey Mutup while the three others remain the same.
Earlier, on February 18, in a meeting the rightwing Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) held under the Chairmanship of Member of Parliament Thupstan Chhewang, Minister for Ladakh Affairs and Cooperatives, and District President BJP Unit Leh, Tsewang Gonbo unanimously nominated Dorjey Mutup.
Gyal P Wangyal, Sakti Councillor had proposed the name of Dorjay Motup and Tsering Morup, Councillor Tingmosgang had supported the proposal of Gyal P Wangyal accordingly.
No other nomination was filed.
Deputy Commissioner, Avny Lavasa declared Kyungam Constituency Councillor, Dorjey Mutup uncontested and unopposed to fill the seat of Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor for LAHDC, Leh.
Felicitating Mutup, State BJP President Sat Sharma said, “After the demise of late Sonam Dawa, it was difficult to fill the post. Now we have elected Dorjey Mutup as the new CEC. There was only one nomination and he was elected unopposed. The new CEC’s first priority should be development of Ladakh. My best wishes are with him.”
Minister for Ladakh Affairs and Cooperatives, Chering Dorje said, "This is for the first time in Ladakh that a sitting CEC suddenly passed away and the situation came up. It was a big responsibility to pull this. Late Sonam Dawa was a great leader and the new CEC Dorjey Mutup will take his task forward. Dorjey Mutup has worked with me and I know his capability. He has a good working style and takes everyone along.”
Dorje said, “There was a need of electing the new CEC due to the constitutional requirement of 10 days. In Ladakh, we always elect unanimously and it does not matter to whichever party we belong. I and MP Thupstan Chhewang after seeing the majority declared his name in a BJP meeting held on February 19. We already had taken the views from the other Councillors.”
He said the views of the opposition parties were also taken from MLA Leh, Nawang Rigzin Jora, and MLA Nubra, Deldan Namgyal.
“When it comes to the development of Ladakh, we cooperate with each other and in I hope this tradition will continue in future too,” Dorje said.
Talking about the Thiksay Constituency election, he said after discussing with the DC, they would conduct the polls within six months and announce it soon.
Before starting the election process, a two-minute silence was observed in memory of late Sonam Dawa.
The new Chief Executive Councillor, Dorjey Mutup said, “All the activities of LAHDC, Leh will be for the development of Ladakh and for the welfare of the people. From now there will be no hindrance to the development of Ladakh. For the last two-and-a-half years, late Sonam Dawa carried developments in Ladakh and I promise to work dedicatedly for the development of Ladakh."
Earlier, Mutup expressed his thanks to all the Councillors for electing him unopposed and promised to take along everyone to work for the development of Ladakh.
Mutup was earlier in a government job in Public Works Department.
His political career started as Sarpanch of Panchayat halqa Liktsey.
He went on to become Councillor of Kyungyam constituency in September 2003 contesting under Ladakh Union Territory Front and remained in office until 2010.
Mutup worked as Executive Councillor, Health.
Subsequently, as Councillor of the constituency he remained affiliated to BJP up to October 2015 remaining the Leader of Opposition in the LAHDC, Leh.
Since October 2015, again as Councillor of Kyungyam constituency with BJP he held the portfolio of Executive Councillor, Works up to ending July 2017.
Since then he was Executive Councillor, Education.
