People from different walks of life including politicians, religious organizations and bureaucrats expressed condolences and prayers on the demise of Kashmir's grand Mufti, Bashir-ud-Din Farooqi.
All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman and Mutahida Majlise Ulema patron Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed sorrow and heartfelt condolence over the demise of Mufti, Bashir-ud-Din Farooqi, stating that people of Kashmir will always remember his service in the field of Islamic jurisprudence and his contribution in social and political sphere of the valley.
In his message of condolence, to the Mufti family, he said that late Mufti Sahib shared a close bond with Mirwaiz family. Mirwaiz Umar said that the Grand Mufti infused a new energy in two important institutions---Darul Iftah and Darul Qaza and had always been on the fore front to serve the people through these institutions to the best of his capability. With the death of Grand Mufti, an era has ended he said.
Terming the death of Grand Mufti as a personal loss, Mirwaiz said that the late Mufti has had close relations with the founder of Awami Action Committe Shaheed-e-Milat Mirwaiz Umar Farooq . Late Mufti sahib served as the General Secretary of AAC , and during that time was also imprisoned for supporting the movement for right to self determination.
Soon after coming to know about the death of Grand Mufti, Mirwaiz visited the family of deceased to express solidarity and sympathy with the bereaved family especially his son Mufti Nasirul Islam, who he said should carry his father’s work forward.
Mirwaiz also offered special Fateh prayers for the deceased and prayed for the highest standards in janah for the departed soul. Mirwaiz also participated in the jinazah at Khanqah-e-Mualla.
Describing Mufti Azam Mufti Bashiruddin, as a renowned Islamic Scholar, a man of immense learning and knowledge and a fine human being, Advisor Ganai who is also the chairman of the Muslim Wakf Board expressed grief over the demise of Mufti Azam.
He said that he had developed a warm personal relationship with Mufti Azam over the years since his posting as Divisional Commissioner Kashmir in 1998 and often consulted him to get his valued advice. Ganai said that he had great regard for Mufti Azam for his qualities, knowledge and wisdom.
Describing the demise of Mufti Azam as an irreparable loss to the Kashmir society and in fact the whole state, Advisor expressed deep sympathies with the family and followers of Mufti Azam and prayed for place for his soul in Jannat ul Firdous. The Advisor also prayed for strength to the bereaved family and admirers of the late Mufti Azam.
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Faoooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the demise of noted scholar and Grand Mufti of Srinagar Mufti Azam Bashir Ud Din Farooqi sb.
Dr. Farooq while expressing grief over the demise of Mufti Bashir Ud Din said, “Kashmir has lost a towering personality, who had carved a space for himself in the scholarly corridors of Kashmir. His scholarly attainments and penchant for Islamic learning will be remembered for the times to come. I pray for peace to the soul of departed and strength to the grief-stricken family to bear the loss.”
Omar Abdullah while condoling the demise of Grand Mufti said, “Mufti Azam was a known socio-religious personality. He will be remembered for his literary disposition, humanness. May almighty grant Jannah to the soul of departed”
Meanwhile Dr Farooq made a phone call to the Mufti Nasir Ul Islam Farooqi, son of late Mufti Bashir Ud Din Farooqi and personally extended condolences to the bereaved family.
Later party vice president Omar Abdullah, provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani, senior leader Basharat Bhukhari, District president Srinagar Peer Afaq, Tanvir Sadiq, also participated in the Namaz e Jannazah of the noted scholar at Khankahe Mualaa, Srinagar.
A condolence meet was held at Jama’at headquarters Batamaloo which was presided by Ameer Jama’at Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz wherein deep grief and sorrow was expressed on the sad demise of Grand Mufti Bashir ud-din Ahmad Farouqi.
Participants of the meet at this juncture paid glowing tributes to the contributions by deceased. Also high level delegations led by Ameer Jama’at also visited the bereaved family and expressed sympathy with them. Delegation also took part in the funeral prayers of Late Grand Mufti.
Jammu Kashmir National Front also expressed deep shock over the passing away of Mufti Azam Mufti Bashir-ul-din Faroqui.
National Front spokesman said that incarcerated party Chairman, Nayeem Khan used to talk about Mufti Azam with reverence and respect and he used to term him as an asset.
The National Front said that by passing away of Mufti Azam Mufti Bashir-ul-din, Kashmir has lost one of its great religious personalities. He prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased soul.
While condoling the demise of Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir Bashir-ud-Din, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice President and former MLC G N Monga expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
In a condolence message, Monga said in Mufti Bashir-ud-Din sahib’s death Kashmir has lost a great religious scholar. His death has created a void which is difficult to fill.
He expressed heartfelt condolences with the Mufti family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami condoled the demise of Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir Bashir-ud-Din.
“Mufti Bashir-ud-Din was a social and religious leader and in his death, Kashmir has lost a great human being,” he said.
He also expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
Chairman PDF Hakeem Yaseen expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir Bashir-ud-Din who passed away today
In his condolence message Hakeem Yaseen highlighted the contribution of the Grand Mufti in preaching religious education in the state adding that he always remained apolitical and uncontroversial while teaching tenets of Islam with focus on strengthening moral value in the society.
