‘JeM module busted, 5 persons arrested’

Police Thursday claimed to have busted a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) Module which was involved in two recent grenade attacks in Srinagar city.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Central Kashmir, VK Birdi said police busted Jaish module by arresting five militant operatives, who were planning to execute sensational incidents like militant attack and causing Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in the city.
Police termed busting of module as “big success”.
“In a major success the Srinagar Police busts Jaish Module. two grenade blasts in Hazratbal area worked out. Major attack averted ahead of Republic Day. Five militant operatives arrested. Huge Explosive material recovered,” the police said on Twitter.
The arrested persons were identified as Aijaz Ahmed Sheikh, Umar Hameed Sheikh, Sahil Farooq Gojri, Naseer Ahmed Mir, and Imtiyaz Ahmed Chikla, all residents of Srinagar.
Birdi said they have worked out two grenade attacks in Srinagar by arresting the accused.
“During the course of investigation, it was revealed that they were involved in recent grenade attack at Habak. They were also involved in planning and executing a militant attack last year near Sir Syed Gate of University of Kashmir at Hazratbal on November 26,” he said.
Police also claimed to have recovered incriminating materials including arms and other explosive substance like gelatine sticks, explosives, detonators, nitric acid etc, from the accused.
“Investigation so far revealed that their motives to enforce shut down and paralyze normal life activities in Srinagar city and further plans to executive sensational incidents like militant attack and causing like IED explosion," the police said.
Further investigation is underway to unearth further module and conspiracy, Police added.
0n Jan 8, three civilians were injured in grenade explosion in Habak area in outskirts Srinagar.
In November last year, a grenade was hurled near Kashmir University in Hazratbal area of the city.
