Lt Gen Sandhu new Military Secretary, Lt Gen Anil Chauhan DGMO
Lt Gen Anil Kumar Bhatt has been named as the new General Officer Commanding (GoC) of the Srinagar-based Army’s 15 Corps replacing Lt Gen J S Sandhu, who takes over as the new Military Secretary.
According to defence sources, the government has cleared the appointment of Lt Gen Bhatt as the GoC 15 Corps.
Lt Gen Bhatt would take over from Lt Gen Sandhu, who had taken over as the GoC 15 Corps on November 1, 2016.
The defence sources said Bhatt, who was the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), would be the first senior officer in a long time to assume the charge of GoC 15 Corps.
Last year in November, Lt Gen Bhatt had taken over as the DGMO to oversee all crucial operations being conducted by the Army.
Lt Gen Bhatt would be the 47th Corps Commander of the Army’s strategic Srinagar-based 15 Corps.
The sources said Lt Gen Bhatt himself would be replaced by 3 Corps (Dimapur) Commander, Lt Gen Anil Chauhan who would take over as the new DGMO at Army headquarters in Delhi by January-February 2018.
Lt Gen Bhatt, who was commissioned into the Gorkha Rifles, has earlier served in the military operations directorate as a brigadier.
He also served as the Additional Director General of the Complaints and Advisory Board at the Army headquarters after he commanded the 21 Division in Assam.
Lt Gen Bhatt hails from Khatwar village in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand.
Bhatt is an alumnus of St George's College in Mussoorie.
