Punjab Government has kept all seven Kathua rape-and-murder case accused allegedly in solitary confinement to which the defense lawyers of the accused persons have raised voice before the Sessions Court Judge Pathankot.
“We have learnt that seven accused persons are kept in the solitary confinement in Gurdaspur jail. In one room, three accused are kept and in another solitary confinement four are kept,” claimed Advocate AK Swahney while speaking to media outside the Pathankot Sessions Court.
He said that the treatment of jail authorities in Gurdaspur is inhuman as they have been kept in those spaces which are meant for convicts and it violates Supreme Court orders that till the accused persons are proven guilty, they shall be treated as innocents.
“They are kept in solitary confinements under unhygienic conditions as bathroom is also inside.”
Similarly, he informed that they will contest termination of police constable Tilak Raj since he was disengaged by the Police Department without any notice.
“There is no action against then SHO Hiranagar Police Station who failed to do anything when the girl went missing from January 10 to January 17. However, Anand Dutta and Tilak were made scapegoat. ASP Samba was also made incharge of a probe but that report never came up,” he said.
He said that they will challenge the termination in the court.
