Kashmiri Youth Asrar Wani bags Podium at world racing championship in Dubai

A Srinagar youth Asrar Wani Friday bagged podium by securing the position of 2nd runners-up for team India at world racing championship held in Dubai.

Wani , who is also the member of prominent organisation, Kashmir Off Road, represented team India at the world endurance racing championship, against 32 participants from all across the world and bagged podium by securing the position of 2nd runners-up for team India.

The Dubai kartdrome endurance championship is the most prestigious 4 stroke Karting event in the world. The championship has been running successfully for 18 years with over 30 teams taking part from all over the world.

 

Some of the countries taking part in the Nations cup category are France, Germany, Russia, Portugal, UAE, Bahrain, Oman, South Africa, Spain, Czech Republic and India. 

 

There are four rounds through the year in the championship. Round 1 - 12 hours, round 2 - 600 laps, round 3 - 700 kms and round 4 - 24 hours. 

 

The last team that represented India was 12 years ago and comprised some of the top drivers from our country such as Narain Karthikeyan, Karun Chandhok, Armaan Ebrahim, Deepak Chinappa, Eshaan Singh And Ameya Walvalkar. 

 

Speaking about the event Ali Sajid founder of Kashmir Off-Road said that, “Asrar has been one of the most optimistic and consistent drivers in our club, and has the potential to compete and win in international race events."

" His participation in Volkswagen Ameo Cup National racing Championship last year was also commendable. Asrar’s enthusiasm and passion for motorsports is making all of Kashmir proud with his achievements. Wishing him success always”.

Speaking over the phone from Dubai Asrar Wani said,  “It has been such an exciting experience competing in an international event for the first time. I feel on top of the world to also have bagged podium for team India. First time, for any Indian to have won in such a championship. I would like to thank all those who supported and prayed for me.”
