Kashmiri filmmaker’s ‘Daughters of Paradise’ to be screened in Kerela

Srinagar, July 10:

 Kashmiri filmmaker Bilal Jan’s film ‘Daughters of Paradise’ will be screened at Kerela International Documentary and Film Festival from July 20 to 24, 2018.
Written and directed by Jan ‘Daughters of Paradise’ a 38-minute long film talks about dowry and how the Kashmiri society has been changed. It narrates the stories of four women who were tortured by their in-laws in the name of dowry.
The film revolves around how ‘Kashmiri daughters are mentally tortured and emotionally blackmailed’ by their in-laws because of their greed which is never satisfied. The film explores various kinds of violence against the women and highlights other issues in the society.
Bilal A Jan told Rising Kashmir that the film has not only been selected for screening in the Kerala International Festival but also for the competition. It is a big movement for Kashmir as well as for the young filmmakers, Jan said.
“I am thankful to my full creative and production team for making this film possible. It took me more than one year to make this film,” Jan said.
His documentary film “The Lost Childhood” (in the Kashmiri language) was selected for Tehran International Short Film Festival in the competition section and the 10th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) in 2008.
Filsm directed by Jan, though short documentary versions given the paucity of finances and being short on technical support, nevertheless cover sensitive subjects.
The film Won Nina Sugati SR Award for "Best Director" in conceptual art in cinema and also won a prize at the first ever J&K Film Festival by J&K Academy for Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) in 2010.
Bilal has worked with Shyam Benegal and Vidhu Vinod Chopra in their films, including Mission Kashmir, Netaji, and the Forgotten Hero.
