Senior Vice President People’s Conference and Former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil on Thursday urged the Modi government to plan and facilitate the return, restitution & rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandit community back to Kashmir valley.
Vakil said that Kashmiri Pandits are living as refugees in their own country for the last three decades. “Thirty years is too long to live a traumatic life without a home. Their absence from the valley a socio-cultural vacuum has arisen and the plurality and Kashmiriyat have been imperilled. Kashmir’s heritage, spirituality & syncretic ethos is incomplete without the physical presence of this illustrious community,” he said.
Vakil said that the successive governments have failed to address the issues of their safe & dignified return.
“The majority community had always been anxiously waiting to receive & welcome their ethnic natives to live together in peace and harmony and jointly contribute to bringing back the glory and strength of the statehood, heritage and plural polity,” Vakil added.
Vakil said that those KP families who stayed back deserve the employment for their educated youth out of PM’s employment package and overage concessions. “KPs sitting on Dharna in Srinagar shall be visited by an advisor to Govt. to assure them of redressal of the issues raised. The LG administration is urged to grant compensation to those who lost their livelihood due to Covid-19 situation,” he said.
