JKWP Criticizes deferment of Panchayati elections

Demands immediate announcement of fresh dates

Jammu and Kashmir Workers Party (JKWP) has criticized the decision of deferring the Panchayati elections and has demanded the immediate announcement of fresh dates for the election.

In its statement to CNS, the party chairman Mir Junaid said that it is painful event for the cadres of Jammu and Kashmir Worker’s Party that the Panchayati Raj elections have been deferred.

He said that the party absolutely believes in the grass root democracy and has been championing its cause from years together now.

“Our cadres in the length and breadth of Jammu and Kashmir had burnt and keep on burning midnight oil, in the preparation of PRI elections. While the deferment may suit some political outfits, who are against the democracy at the cutting edge, we at JKWP have nothing to gain from deferment. If anything it’s demoralizing for our zealous cadres and candidates”, he said.

Mir Junaid further said, “We therefore appeal authorities at the helm to come up with the fresh poll dates, at an earliest, so that the democratic aspirations of natives are met and so that their local issues could be resolved at the local level only.”

With reference to the issue of safe drinking water supply to the schools Mir Junaid said, “It has come to fore that more than 1800 schools in Kashmir valley are without safe drinking water facility, which is disturbing phenomena and leads to consumption of contaminated water by the school children, which would have detrimental effect upon their physical and mental growth.”

“So we request the authorities at helm to mitigate the basic issue and provide safe and healthy environs to our young children”, he added. CNS
