JK witnesses sudden spike in fresh cases

With 246 cases in 24 hours, JK tally rises to 8675

Jammu Kashmir Monday witnessed spike in COVID-19 cases as 246 persons tested positive including 210 from Kashmir and 36 from Jammu, bringing the infection tally to 8675.
Monday’s cases include 65 from Srinagar, 49 from Kulgam, Baramulla 41, Pulwama 34, Samba 13, Jammu six, Kathua five, Rajouri four, Kupwara, Budgam, Ramban and Resai three each, and Anantnag, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Udhampur and Poonch one each.
Monday’s cases included 35 travelers.
Of these cases, 104 samples returned positive at the Viral Diagnostic and Research Lab (VDRL) of SKIMS Srinagar, which tested 1264 samples during the past 24 hours.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said the cases include 47 from Kulgam, 34 from Pulwama, Budgam and Baramulla five each, five paramilitary CRPF men, Anantnag and Srinagar two each, and Bandipora, Kupwara and Shopian one each.
The COVID-19 testing lab of SKIMS Medical College and Hospital, Bemina Monday tested 488 samples of which 52 returned positive.
The 52 cases include 37 from Srinagar and 15 from Shopian.
The coronavirus dedicated hospital has so far admitted 670 positive cases of which 569 have been discharged while 107 are undergoing treatment.
The hospital has also conducted 30 lower segment caesarean section (LSCS) surgeries and 20 normal deliveries of pregnant women who tested positive for COVID-19.
The government said of the total 4,06,212 test results available, 3,97,537 returned negative and 8675 positive, which include 3219 active positive cases while 5318 have recovered and been discharged including 63 persons discharged during the past 24 hours.
It said, so far, 2,99,748 persons had been put under observation including 40,157 in home quarantine, 3219 in hospital isolation, and 47 in hospital quarantine while 46,777 people are under home surveillance and 2,09,410 persons have completed their surveillance period.
In Kashmir, Srinagar tops the list with 1216 cases followed by Baramulla with 1064, Kulgam 908, Shopian 861, Anantnag 721, Kupwara 607, Pulwama 572, Budgam 489, Bandipora 308, and Ganderbal 120.
In Jammu division, Jammu district has 403 cases followed by Udhampur with 291, Kathua 254, Ramban 239, Samba 199, Poonch 125, Rajouri 128, Doda 93, Reasi 48, and Kishtwar 29.
J&K has so far reported 138 deaths to coronavirus pandemic of which 124 have been reported from Kashmir division.
