International Forum of Justice (IFJ) Thursday held a protest in Press Enclave, Srinagar seeking arrest of the human shield fame Major Leetul Gagoi, who was found with a teenage girl in a hotel here on Wednesday.
Ahsan Untoo, Chairman IFJ lead the protest and said that the police is still investigating the case of Farooq Ahmad Dar despite the fact that Gagoi had accepted that he had used Dar as a human shield in Chill Brass Village.
“I have registered seven petitions against the major (Gagoi) from past one year. There are also FIR’s lodged against him but still he is moving freely,” he said.
Untoo said if Gagoi had been arrested on right time, another “shameful incident wouldn’t have happened in the hotel which was condemned widely.”
He accused the government forces of becoming the slaves of Indian army.
“If an FIR (38\2017 police station Beerwah) had been lodged against Gagoi why he has not been arrested so far. Isn’t police having the authority to arrest him,” Untoo lamented.
He said that another FIR 74\2017 was lodged against Gagoi for the charge of murder of Tanveer Ahmad Wani, who was killed in 2017 allegedly by him.
“Police said investigation is complete and report has been sent for sanction to Home Department. Police should explain why they aren’t arresting the Gagoi,” Untoo questioned.
Lamenting on Wednesday’s incident, he said that the girl could have been the daughter of anyone, “be it the daughter of policeman, politician or of any commoner. These all girls are our daughters.”
“Gagoi couldn’t serve the people, then how could he serve the people of his country,” Untoo said.
