The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has expressed ‘serious concern’ over the growing attacks on journalists in the Asia Pacific region.

Mentioning the killing of Rising Kashmir’s founding Editor Syed Shujaat Bukhari in their July News Bulletin, the IFJ bulletin has put the killings of journalists in the region since January 1 at 21.

As per the IFJ bulletin, 24 journalists were killed in the Asia-Pacific region in 2017.

Earlier the IFJ’s Executive Committee meeting which met in Taiwan in May expressed “deep concern over the Indian government’s manoeuvres to control the media and impinge on the right to freedom of expression and access to information, critical to its democracy.”
