Heavy rains, accompanied with hailstorms, hitting parts of Baramulla district damaged standing crops, vegetables and apple orchards raising concerns over the overall output and the quality this season.
Local villagers said that hailstorm hit upper areas of Baramulla damaging seasonal fruit crops, vegetables and horticulture crops spread across thousands of acres of land in parts of North Kashmir's Baramulla district.
They said that heavy rains accompanied by hailstorm continued for at least ten minutes in Shumlaran, Nowgam, Laridora, Katyawali and other areas of the district.
“The hailstorm wreaked havoc in the area inflicting huge losses to farmers and orchardists. The hailstorm continued up to ten minutes. Cherries, peaches, pears, almond crop and few varieties of apples suffered huge damage. We appeal district administration to depute teams of experts to the affected areas so as assess the damage caused by heavy rains and hailstorm,” they said.
