The government would depute 85 Assistant Professors (APs) of the Education department as Nodal Officers at various hotels-turned-quarantine centers.
An official at Deputy Commissioner (DC) office in Srinagar said that the APs would replace the officials of other departments who were given the same task a few days back.
“In the quarantine centers, the incumbent officials of other departments including the of Power Development Department, Kashmir Administrative Service officers and all DFOs will be replaced by the officers of the Education department,” he said. “The APs will be asked to remain on duty at quarantine centers for two days and then they will be accordingly intimated about further orders.”
Meanwhile, DC Srinagar, Shahid Choudhary issued an order in this regard asking these officials to remain attached with the office till further orders.
“In exercise of powers under the District Disaster Management Act 2005 and keeping in view the situation arising out of COVID-19 pending, these officials are hereby deployed with DC Office Srinagar till further orders,” Choudhary said.
Meanwhile, some of the APs said they were not well equipped and trained to be the nodal officers of these quarantine wards.
“We have no idea how to deal with this kind of situation. Earlier, if the government was deputing us on election or other duties, we always forwarded a helping hand, but this case is entirely different. This is an issue of medical treatment and we have no knowledge about it,” they said.
