Eight more die in Kashmir, JK toll 187

With 314 fresh cases, JK’s infection tally rises to 10,827

Eight more persons died of COVID-19 in Kashmir during the past 24 hours, taking the death toll in J&K to 187, officials said.
They include a 46-year-old man from Sopore, Baramulla who was suffering from comorbidities including multiple myeloma and electrotype dysfunction and died at SKIMS Srinagar.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said the coronavirus positive patient was admitted on July 7 and died due to cardiopulmonary arrest.
A 65-year-old man from Rawalpora, Srinagar who died of cardiac arrest while his sample was collected later tested positive, officials said.
A 55-year-old woman from Pulwama who was admitted at the Chest Disease Hospital, Srinagar on July 5 died Monday.
Medical Superintendent CD Hospital, Dr Saleem Tak said she was suffering from arthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bilateral pneumonia.
A 65-year-old paramilitary CRPF man of 174 Battalion from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district who was admitted to SMHS on Sunday died today, doctors said.
They said he was suffering from bilateral pneumonia.
He is the second CRPF men to die of coronavirus in J&K.
Also one death has been reported from Budgam, one from Kupwara, one from Srinagar, and the eighth from Baramulla during the past 24 hours.
With the eight fresh casualties, the death toll due to coronavirus has soared to 187 in J&K that includes 170 from Kashmir and 17 from Jammu.
The government said Srinagar has witnessed 46 deaths, Baramulla 35, Kulgam 20, Shopian 16, Anantnag 14, Budgam 14, Kupwara 11, Jammu 10, Pulwama five, Ganderbal four, Bandipora three, Doda two, and Udhampur, Kathua, Samba, Poonch, and Rajouri one each.
Not only deaths but coronavirus cases in JK also continue to go up with Monday witnessing 314 fresh cases that include 225 from Kashmir and 89 from Jammu, taking the total infection tally to 10,827.
Monday’s cases include 101 from Srinagar, Kupwara 30, Jammu 25, Samba 24, Bandipora 20, Shopian, Kathua 16 each, Anantnag 14, Budgam 11, Ramban nine, Baramulla, Pulwama and Doda six each, Poonch and Kishtwar four each and Udhampur one.
Of these cases, 101 samples returned positive at the Viral Diagnostic and Research Lab (VDRL) of SKIMS Srinagar, which tested 1413 samples during the past 24 hours.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said they include 26 paramilitary CRPF men, Srinagar 22, Kulgam 18, Bandipora 13, Budgam 11, Anantnag four, Kupwara three, Baramulla two, Pulwama and Ganderbal one each.
The COVID-19 testing lab of SKIMS Medical College and Hospital, Bemina Monday tested 407 samples of which 29 returned positive, all from Srinagar.
These include four persons from the High Court.
The government said of the 4,59,703 test results available, 4,48,876 returned negative and 10,827 positive which include 4545 active positive cases while 6065 have recovered and been discharged including 116 persons discharged during the past 24 hours.
It said, so far, 3,15,386 persons had been put under observation including 38,643 in home quarantine, 4545 in hospital isolation and 25 in hospital quarantine while 45,093 people are under home surveillance and 2,26,893 persons have completed their surveillance period.
In Kashmir, Srinagar tops the list with 1806 cases, followed by Baramulla with 1326, Kulgam 1021, Shopian 918, Anantnag and Kupwara 802 each, Pulwama 662, Budgam 572, Bandipora 385, and Ganderbal 201.
In Jammu division, Jammu district has 513 cases followed by Udhampur with 303, Kathua 316, Ramban 270, Samba 268, Rajouri 275, Poonch 146, Doda 134, Reasi 57, and Kishtwar 50.
