The aspiring pilgrims for Haj 2017 who were not selected have been receiving alleged ambiguous SMSs informing them of their selection now for the Haj pilgrimage.
The aspirants for the pilgrimage slated to start from 25th July smell foul at the sudden messages informing them that they have been selected and should immediately contact the J&K state Haj committee (JKSHC).
However contrary to the aspersions raised by the stakeholders, Qamar Sajjad executive officer JKSHC told Rising Kashmir that the SMSs sent pertain to those Haj aspirants who were initially selected on provisional basis under the ‘green category’ which offers better accommodation facilities.
He added that owing to non-availability of green category accommodations at Makkah Mukarrama, the accommodation category for 19734 aspiring pilgrims has been downgraded to ‘Aziziya’ category through an online draw of lots (qurrah). “Qurrah has been done in accordance with para no 16.2 Note (iii) of guidelines for Haj 2017.”
Qamar further said that the 19734 pilgrims who have been getting these SMSs should not panic as these have been sent to inform them about the change of category and the additional amount of money they had paid for green category will be refunded to their bank accounts.
The list of pilgrims whose category has been downgraded through online qurrah has also been uploaded on the website of Haj committee of India.
