Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Tariq Ahmad Zargar, on Wednesday chaired a meeting of officers and representatives of religious organisations, civil society members and prominent citizens to discuss the arrangements for Muharram.
According to an official spokesman, the meeting was attended by ADDC Abdul Hamid, executive engineers of PHE,PWD, tehsildars Haveli and Mandi, EO Poonch municipality, AD Food, Civil Supplies &Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), representatives of police department and other district officers.
After threadbare discussion, the DC enjoined upon the officers to ensure all arrangements well in advance with regard to uninterrupted power supply, drinking water, provision of essential commodities, sanitation, transport and security arrangements, the official said.
The XEn, PDD, was asked to take measures for uninterrupted power supply during the Muharram days whereas EO, Municipal Council, was directed to ensure better sanitation and cleanliness around the Imam Baras and religious places where processions and congregations are held so that the mourners do not face any inconvenience.
He directed the Food, Civil Supplies &Consumer Affairs department to ensure availability of essential commodities.
The official spokesman said the meeting was informed that there are nearly 32 Anjumans in the district and the programs and majilis start from first Muharram and while Ashura processions will be taken out on 9th & 10th of Muharram (October 1).
The meeting further informed that Ashura processions will be taken out on already identified route in Poonch, Mandi, Mendhar and Surnkote.
The meeting decided to deploy additional security personnel on all routes for foolproof security, the official said.
On the occasion, Deputy commissioner, informed that separate meetings shall be conducted at Surnkote, Mendhar and Mandi withAnjuman–Shian and with all stakeholders for the peaceful and successful conduct of Ashura processions in the district, the official spokesman.
