Constable among two held with 50 kg poppy straw at Gangyal

Police Thursday claimed to have arrested a police constable along with another person with 50 kg poppy straw from Gangyal area.
Based on inputs, police said, they established a naka at Murgi Chowk, Gangyal. During naka checking, police said, they intercepted an alto car bearing registration number JK02AD – 0209, which was coming from Narwal towards Kunjwani Chowk, when signaled to stop for police checking.
However, the driver of the vehicle on seeing the police, tried to break the naka in order to flee from the spot. “The vehicle was chased and two persons were apprehended by the alert cops whose identity has been established as selection grade constable Fareed Bakash of IRP 18th Battalion E “Coy” Jammu and Ghulam Ahmed Sofi son of Walli Mohd Sofi of Gundchal, Anantnag.”
During search of the vehicle, police said, they seized 50 kilograms of poppy straw from their possession. In this regard, case FIR Number 58 of 2018 under section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at police station Gangyal.
Further investigation of the case is going on. During questioning, they disclosed that they had brought the consignment from Srinagar for selling the same among the youth in Jammu area to earn illegitimate profit. More recoveries are expected as there is every possibility of involvement of more persons.
The arrest and recovery was made by SI Nayat Ali SHO Police Station Gangyal and SI Vicky Thapa Incharge PP Greater Kailash under the supervision of SDPO City South, Jammu Mohd Rafiq Manhas and SP City South, Jammu.
