On the first Block Diwas during the ongoing 21-day Jan Abhiyan, the Bandipora block headquarters wore festive look with enthusiastic participation of locals.
The Youm-e-block (Block Diwas) was celebrated in all the block headquarters of the district as all the departmental functionaries were available for the people to ensure on spot disposal of applications and redressal of grievances.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad attended the Block Diwas celebrations at Aloosa Block that witnessed a huge participation of people.
More than three dozen delegations besides scores of individuals called on the Deputy Commissioner and apprised him about the problems faced by them in day to day life including that of roads, water, electricity, Healthcare services, Education, Agriculture, Irrigation, Sports and other individual issues.
DC Bandipora gave patient hearing to the delegations and passed on-spot directions for redressal of their grievances. Responding to the public grievances, DC Bandipora asked the officers to identify a suitable location for construction of a playground in Aloosa block and also directed to make the Wellness Centre established by ISM functional immediately.
While interacting with the people, DC Bandipora said conducting public outreach programmes provides an important feedback for the government to tailor its interventions for the public good and reach to the doorstep of the people instead of them visiting the corridors of power in secretariat or other government offices.
Dr Owais said the government officers have left their offices and reached to the people across the district to listen to their grievances and get on-spot feedback of the service delivery system at grass roots level. He said reaching out to the people has established an efficient and effective grievance redress mechanism which is being monitored at different levels.
He said that public outreach programmes are an important part of effective governance and it takes every step to reach out to the people in their own localities.
The DC also appealed to the general public of the district that on every day except on Wednesday and Sunday, these public hearings will be continued not only within the premises of the DC office but also in all the District and Sectoral offices and on every consecutive Wednesday.
Later the Deputy Commissioner distributed Wheelchairs among specially abled persons, Domicile certificates and cheques among beneficiaries under different schemes.
