5 more test positive in Kashmir, cases soar to 38

Over 6400 people under surveillance in JK: Govt

 Five more cases including three from Budgam, one from Srinagar, and a forces personnel tested positive in Kashmir on Sunday, taking the list of confirmed cases to 38 in Jammu Kashmir.
The cases were reported soon after the second death due to COVD-19 in Chest Disease Hospital in Srinagar, where the deceased was admitted for isolation on Saturday.
Principal Secretary to J&K Government, Rohit Kansal said in a tweet that five more coronavirus cases, all men, were confirmed in Kashmir on Saturday.
Dr S Muhammad Salim Khan, Nodal Officer for coronavirus for Government Medical College Srinagar, said three cases were from Budgam, one from Srinagar, and the fifth is a sample of a paramilitary personnel.
“The four cases have been put in isolation at Chest Disease Hospital while the fifth one is a sample of forces' personnel, which tested positive,” he said.
Of the three Budgam residents (hailing from Charar, Pakherpora and Kani Dajan), two have travel history to Delhi while another is contact of the already positive case at SKIMS, and the Srinagar man has also travel history to Delhi.
Khan said, on Sunday, more than 44 samples tested negative at the Viral Diagnostic and Research Lab of the medical college.
The government said that the testing rate in J&K is over 10% of those under surveillance, which is higher than many states across India.
“The five cases that tested positive on Saturday were all contacts of prior positive cases and are asymptomatic. They would not have been known for up to two weeks and would have infected hundreds,” a government official said.
As per the media bulletin of J&K government, a total of 6465 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance, 3260 in home quarantine, 307 in hospital quarantine and 2163 in home surveillance.
As per the government, a total of 735 people have completed 28 days of surveillance period for the COVID-19.
“A total of 588 samples have been sent for testing of which 542 are negative, 38 tested positive (34 active positive, two recovered, two died) while the test report of eight is awaited,” it said.
As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India has surged to 867 and 25 have died so far.
Timeline of positive cases:
18 March: The first coronavirus positive case reported from Srinagar.

24 March: Three more patients, two from Srinagar and one from Bandipora, tested positive.
25 March: Four more people from Bandipora detected positive.
26 March: Two grandchildren of a COVID-19 patient from Srinagar, and a person from Rajouri tested positive.
27 March: Four persons from Srinagar, and two from Rajouri tested positive.
28 March: Thirteen new positive cases including nine from Srinagar reported.
29 March: Five fresh cases reported. The number of positive cases surges to 38 while two persons have died.
