Srinagar, Apr 15 : Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani on Wednesday asked the handicraft industry to introspect on its own inaction, saying he had previously urged it to take necessary steps.

"Times have changed. The system of marketing has changed. Today, a lot of people want the convenience of shopping," Wani said.

Recalling the pre-militancy era, he said the central market in Srinagar was once the only hub for handicrafts. "Then, when militancy came to an end, there was a big shock. The people who used to bring handicrafts to Srinagar had to shift again. A lot of people left," he added.

The Advisor said he had asked the industry to act.

"I will ask the industry about what happened and what did not happen. But you should also ask the industry about what action it has taken," Wani said.

He urged the handicrafts department to carry out promotional activities similar to the ongoing week-long drive. "Do something that will attract tourists here. Along with that, we will keep a brochure of this market. The rest is up to God. The buyer should come here," he said.

On the Delimitation Commission, when asked about the Centre giving it power to increase parliamentary seats, Wani said: "The chief minister has just said it. We will decide what to do according to the party after the meeting of the India bloc. The chief minister has said what we have to do. Be patient." (KNS)
