Muslims attend Pandit girl’s marriage in G'bal; welcome groom, other guests

Ganderbal, June 28: In another example of communal amity, Kashmiri Muslims were seen actively participating in marriage ceremony of a Kashmiri Pandit woman in Lar area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Muslim neighbours who participated in the marriage ceremony of Meenu Kumari daughter of Late Pandit Mohan Lal in Lar village said that it was a great moment for villagers we welcomed groom with Kashmiri song and this voice spread throughout village.
“It is our century-old tradition under which Muslims and Pandits living here attend each other's joy or sorrow. This is true Kashmir, this is our culture and we share brotherhood. We do not believe in divisive politics. We share composite culture,” said a local.
Kashmiri Muslim men and women participated in mehandiraat, other rituals including singing and dancing, which gives a clear message that Muslims and Hindus have been living at peace in Kashmir Valley from ages, he added.
“There is a centuries old bond between Hindus and Muslims and we had been attending the wedding of this sisters for four days,” said another Muslim neighbour who attended the marriage.
On the occasion, Muslim women were seeing welcoming the groom and also participated in singing and dancing  along with Pandit woman during the marriage ceremony.
During this time Sanathan Dharma Sabha District President Ganderbal Badri Nath Butt said that the marriage ceremony was four days long and during this time the muslims men and women attended it wholeheartedly.
He said that the muslims attended all the rites of the wedding ceremony of Pandit girl.
“We have been living together here for years, and we attend each other's celebrations, whether they are festivals, weddings or any event of grief,” he said.
