Multi-tier security arrangements for G20 summit in place: ADGP Kashmir

Says Anti-drone equipment to be pressed, no restrictions to remain in force anywhere; rumour mongers to face strict action

Srinagar, May 18:  Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Thursday that stringent security measures are in place in Srinagar ahead of the G20 meeting in Kashmir. Officials added that high-end drones, CCTV cameras, and checkpoints are being deployed in and around the city to ensure peaceful event. 
Talking to reporters, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said elaborate security arrangements are in place to ensure incident free summit. 
"Anti-drone equipment is being put up for air. NSG and the Army are assisting us in this. We will send MARCOS and a police squad to the water body, Dal Lake. We'll conduct the meeting efficiently and effectively," he assured .
ADGP Kumar said that Jammu and Kashmir Police is fully geared to deal with any threat in water bodies and Marine commandos were available and they have been deployed in Dal Lake and other bodies. Apart from that police, CRPF and SSB teams will also be deployed in strength to foil any possible threats by terrorists, he said.
“The delegates will arrive in Kashmir on May 22 and will leave by May 25. The collaborative efforts of the NSG, the Army, and specialized units will work synergistically to create a secure environment for the summit's participants,” he said.
ADGP Kumar further stressed that there will be no curbs put anywhere in Kashmir, and that some rumour mongers are propagating rumours, and that people should not pay attention to such groups. "Security teams have been properly briefed to ensure that the general public is not inconvenienced during the G-20 event," he added.
The G20’s tourism working group is scheduled to meet in Srinagar between May 22 and May 24. The meet is expected to be one of the most high-profile events hosted in Jammu and Kashmir recently.
The meetings will take place at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre. Delegates will visit Gulmarg in North Kashmir during their stay.
