Shopian: A woman and her son died on intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday in upper reaches of south Kashmir's Shopian district after a tree toppled on their mud hut (Kotha).
Local residents informed that a lady and her son died in an accident in upper reaches of Shopian near Zaban Gali.
They added that a large tree fell on a mud hut last night around 9:30 PM  due to strong wind.
The hut made up of mud and wood logs was housing  family members of Nikka Katari, a resident of Kathallan village of Keller Tehsil.
They told that the family was buried under the debris.
"Some of the injured family members were evacuated but a lady Shareefa Bano wife of Nikka Katari and his son Idrees Katari died on the spot," a local resident of Kathallan said, adding that another injured family member, a daughter of Nikka Katari, was shifted to hospital for treatment.
The family head too sustained injuries, they said.
The victim family belongs to Gujjar community and each year during summer they migrate to upper reaches for grazing cattle.
