Kashmir Vale due to its treasure trove of natural endowments, far more than imparting its influence to travellers and outlanders on a mission or respite, has been a unique experience in itself than invoking experiences. The place romanticized in literature and cinema, provided for a different sense of beauty, one that was wrapped in mysticism, unique cultural and traditional encounters to establishing a deep connect with the all embracing nature. With modernization, if there is anything that has suffered most it is that aesthetic experience that now seems to be lost amid the rebuilding and restructuring of the Vale as popular tourist place for the globetrotters. While we have been and continue to help this transition, the very facts for which the Valley was considered as a paradise are grossly ignored. In the beautiful city Srinagar, when we allow it to be painted in the colours of corporates and allow modern building structures to go against that very aesthetic sense, what are we really doing? By our wise plans and judgments as well as allocation of economic resources, it should have been made better. Even in poorer days or when modernisation in the name of development had not spearheaded in Jammu and Kashmir, it was beautiful and people who thronged here used to take back some unforgettable memories, experiences. Today we construct a park for them with a parking in front, a jetty ride in the lake to pump some adrenaline or a drench in the white waters. Not that they are not important, but we must realize as the true and essential character for which Kashmir has been praised. One must observe that Mughal Gardens cannot be compared with a hotspot build today on modern lines. The former is symbolic of an era, of culture, of architecture and grandeur of erstwhile rulers, of history and not a mere eco-park overlooking Dal Lake. In many prime tourist places the unique experience in wooden huts is no more available as poorly built hotels in brick and sand have replaced them. What unique experience would tourists or travellers have in cell like modern rooms which are not even modern. People think that now that they can talk and walk like English they might impress the Englishmen. The English did not reach here to appreciate his language but rather was much curious and amazed by all that was indigenous including the language that was greek to him. He was amazed to find people in rough tunics and a different lifestyle. Today, he finds jeans clad people talking the same stuff as everywhere and ups his thumb for cultural superiority. Nobody forced us foreign identities but we ourselves have proved the superiority of cultures by undermining ours.
