Srinagar, Oct 29: In its latest advisory, the Meteorological Department (MeT) on Saturday said that they were expecting moderate snowfall in upper reaches and rain in plains from Tuesday onward.
Director Indian Meteorological Centre Kashmir, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that they were expecting six-day wet spell in Kashmir from 1st to 6th November.
“Starting from 1st November, the weather will remain cloudy with possibility of light to moderate rain, while snowfall may occur over middle and higher reaches of J&K,” he said.
Lotus said during the first week of November, there will be drastic fall in day temperatures. The higher reaches will experience light to moderate snowfall and plains will witness rain during the same period,” he said.
Lotus said the snowfall and low temperature may lead to temporary disruption of surface transportation, mainly over Zojila, Mughal Road, Sadnatop, etc.
“As per present conditions, there is 70 percent chance of snowfall in higher reaches and rain in plains,” Lotus said.
He advised farmers to harvest their horticulture produce including fruits etc that are prone to snowfall and low temperature.
However, apple farmers in Kashmir are worried as heavy snowfall before November end will not only destroy the crop but can lead to heavy damage to trees.
