MBBS student from Anantnag dies in Bangladesh

Family requests admin to repatriate deceased mortal remains

Anantnag, Sept 07: A girl student from south Kashmir’s Anantnag district died in Bangladesh after she reportedly fell from the third floor of her college hostel building and now her family is requesting the administration to repatriate her body for home burial.

The deceased named Khushboo Manzoor, daughter of Manzoor Ahmad Tarray was a resident of Katoo Bijbehara and was presently pursuing her MBBS degree from a medical college in Bangladesh.

Her sister told media persons, “I spoke with Khushboo only two days back. Yesterday, our brother, who is also in Bangladesh, informed us that an incident had happened with my sister and she is on a ventilator.”

“Today morning we got the information that she had breathed her last during the night,” recalled the inconsolable sister.

According to one of her relatives, Khushboo was a third year MBBS student who after falling from the building was rushed to the hospital in a serious condition.

After remaining in intensive care unit (ICU) for some hours, she lost the battle with life,” her relative said.

The deceased's family is now requesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and LG Manoj Sinha to repatriate her mortal remains from Bangladesh for home burial.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) in a tweet said, they have taken up the case with the office of LG and are in touch with their coordinator in Bangladesh.

“The deceased girl was pursuing MBBS at Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College in Bangladesh and had fallen from the terrace and later breathed her last in the hospital,” read their tweet.

Speaking to Rising Kashmir Bashrat Qayoom, Deputy Commissioner (DC)Anantnag said, “The unfortunate death of the Anantnag girl in Bangladesh has been taken up with the MEA and Indian High Commission in Bangladesh immediately after the administration received the tragic news in the morning.

“The concerned officers are monitoring the situation and efforts are on to expedite the medical-legal formalities so that the deceased could be repatriated immediately,” the DC said

We are in touch with family in Anantnag and with the deceased’s brother in Bangladesh, he said.

The latest information from the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh which is in touch with UT admin is that formalities are about to complete and the body will soon be sent to the Valley, the official said.
