Srinagar, June 28: Ahead of Urs-e-Shah-e-Hamdan (RA), Mayor Srinagar city Junaid Azim Mattu on Tuesday kick-started a three days cleanness drive here at the shrine of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA) at Khankah e Moulla.
The intense cleanliness drive was initiated by the Mayor of Srinagar to deeply clean the holy shrine ahead of the Urs-e-Shah-e-Hamdan (RA), which will begin by the end of this year.
On the occasion, he was accompanied by Chairman Public Health and Sanitation Arif Raja, Executive Engineer (Mech), Ward Officer, and concerned field staff.
"This is the most intensive cleaning of the revered shrine in recent memory for which SMC’s sanitation teams also joined us,” said Mayor Srinagar.
Mattu, who personally participated in the cleanliness drive, said that every square foot of the revered shrine is being cleaned both outsides and inside Khanqah-e-Moula now by teams of youth volunteers and SMC Sanitation workers.
Pertinently, Parvaiz Ahmad Qadri, Deputy Mayor of Srinagar, along with Salam Ali Sagar and other councilors of SMC reviewed the arrangements in connection with the commencement of the annual Urs.
During the review of the arrangements, the representatives of the shrine apprised them of grievances regarding sanitation in and around the shrine.
They also requested the installation and repair of street lights in and around the shrine, installation of a mobile toilet van outside the shrine during the Urs days, and the removal of encroachment outside the shrine for hassle-free traffic movement.
The Deputy Mayor gave on-spot directions to concerned officers to take appropriate and necessary action with respect to the issues pertaining to them.
The caretakers said this year we are expecting a huge number of devotees at this shrine as they couldn’t attend the Urs-e-Shah-e-Hamdan (RA) in the past two years due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
