Srinagar, May 07: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday claimed to have averted major tragedy by arresting a terror associate along with 5 Kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
A police spokesman said Pulwama Police averted a major tragedy by apprehending a terror associate Ishfaq Ahmed Wani R/O Arigam Pulwama and recovered an IED (approx. 5-6Kgs) on his disclosure.
Meanwhile police have registered a case under relevant sections and investigation has started in this matter.
A senior Army official told Rising Kashmir that in the wee hours Sunday, 5-6 KGs of IED was detected by security forces of Arigam village of Pulwama.
“Gauging the situation and keeping in mind the safety of people, the area was cordoned off by security forces. Bomb disposal team was called to the site and the presence of IED was confirmed by the Explosive Detection dog,” he said.
The official said that later the IED was diffused by the blast method by the bomb disposal team in a secure and safe manner. Alertness and swift action of security forces averted any kind of mishap and prevented any disruption to routine lives, he said.
This comes after Friday’s incident when five soldiers were killed in an explosion triggered by the terrorists in the Rajouri sector when the forces approached the area to eliminate the ultras. On Saturday, a local terrorist was gunned down when he and his associate were confronted by the security forces in Karhama area of Baramulla.
