Major terror attack averted:IED defused on Sgr-Baramulla highway

Srinagar, Sep 11: A major terror incident was averted on Monday after the Security forces recovered and diffused an Improvised explosive device (IED) on Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway. The officials revealed that the IED was recovered near the Pioneer College of Education Hanjiwera in north Kashmir's Pattan area.
An Army officer said a team of police, 29RR and SSB rushed to the spot after a suspicious bag was found on Srinagar National Highway in Baramulla following which the Bomb Disposal Squad had been called up to ascertain the object.
On checking, it was found to be an IED which was diffused without causing any damage, he said.
“Gauging the situation and keeping in mind the safety of people, Traffic was immediately stopped and the area was cordoned off by security forces. Bomb disposal team was called to the site and the presence of IED was confirmed by the Explosive Detection dog," he said.
A senior Army officer told Rising Kashmir that following a suspicious object, the traffic along the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway was suspended and Police teams were rushed to the spot.
“Both Army and Police averted a major terror incident today by recovering and in-situ destroying an IED near Pioneer College, Hanjiwera Bala, Baramulla. The Army stands by its commitment to keep Kashmir terror-free,” he said.
The traffic on the highway resumed after two hours. He said alertness and swift action of security forces averted any kind of mishap and prevented any disruption to routine lives.
Earlier on July 31, an IED was diffused which was discovered in a suspicious bag along Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway near the Zangam flyover in north Kashmir's Pattan area.
