Srinagar, June 04: After two weeks of inclement weather in Kashmir, the Meteorological Department has predicted mainly dry and clear weather in Kashmir till June 12, officials said on Sunday.
Director MeT Srinagar Centre, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that isolated parts of Valley experienced light rains accompanied with thunderstorms at higher reaches on Sunday. Light rain occurred at Yusmarg, Pakharpora and Shopian district.
“From Monday, the weather will remain mainly dry but a brief spell of shower followed by a thunderstorm mainly towards evening can’t be ruled out. There will be an increase in night temperature and days will be warmer ahead,” Lotus said.
He said there is no forecast of any weather change till June 12 in the region. Lotus advised farmers to carry all farming related operations from Monday till June 12. ‘’They should start early in the morning as rain may occur anytime in the evening,” he added.
As weather improves on Sunday, Kashmir witnessed a significant rise in day temperatures. Srinagar recorded 26.0 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperature and 10.4 °C as the minimum temperature.
Pahalgam in south Kashmir settled at 20.8°C degrees and 4.0 °C as minimum temperatures. Ski-resort Gulmarg recorded 15.2 °C as the maximum temperature and 3.6°C as minimum temperature.
A traffic police spokesman said during the past 24 hours, the Jammu-Srinagar highway remained blocked for several hours due to restoration work at many places along the highway. While Traffic Police cops were seen filling potholes at Dalwas on NH-44.
On Monday, subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic, he said.
The LMV’s will be released from Nagrota (Jammu) from 0600 hrs. to 1100 hrs. From Jakheni (Udhampur) 0700 hrs to 1200 hrs& from NAVYUG Tunnel (Qzd. side) 0600 hrs to 1100 hrs.
“TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the traffic advisory and cut off timings. No vehicle shall be allowed to move before and after cut off timings,” he said.
On Srinagar-Leh highway, LMVs shall be allowed from both sides and HMVs shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil. While Mughal Road is still closed due to landslides at RattaChamb, he said.
