Life line to Covid Care needs daily attention.

Oxygen is free , but Covid has put a price tag. Due to the surge in cases , and patient load , uninterrupted Oxygen supply for Covid survivors is a life saver . Using the Concentrators properly to prevent any mishaps or any unintended harm to the patient is need of the hour .

The simple bedside tips on how to use, manage and maintain safe oxygen supply to patients in hospital or at home should be understood and implemented everywhere.

1. EXTERNAL CARE :

Unplug the power source and Clean the outer surfaces of the Concentrator with a wet wipe dipped in soap and  warm water. Wipe with a soft cloth until dry.  We should avoid harsh chemicals and hard scrubs for daily cleaning. Never use Concentrators in a dusty Surrounding, as it may choke the filter.

2. PLASTIC TUBING CARE

All the plastic attachments of the concentrator should be cleaned by mild alcohol based sanitizers and wipes from outside till dry daily. Every month the tubings should be replaced necessarily. Keeping multiple sets of tubes and using each after washing with mild soap and air drying later is preferable.

3. STEPS FOR PROPER USE :

Keep the Oxygen Concentrator 1 to 2 feet away from the wall while in use. Always reading the instructors manual is the key to proper care. Clean the external filter weekly in mild detergent and Let the filter air-dry or place on thick towel to absorb excess water. We have to Make sure the particle filter is completely dry before reinsertion.

4. VITAL POINTS :

Keeping a continuous power source like power generator handy is need of the hour. Resting the Concentrator for half an hour after every 6 to 8 hours of use is an optimal way of handling this vital equipment. Using clean, distilled water for humidifiers and avoiding routine tap water is a must while using concentrators at home.

Lasting infection prevention and control can only be achieved by addressing hand hygiene. We have to ensure that patient and their caregivers are able to perform proper hand hygiene before and after handling any respiratory therapy equipment in hospital or at home.

Breathe Well.
