LeT terrorist killed in Baramulla encounter

Third encounter in north Kashmir in four days

Srinagar, May 06: A Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist was killed in an encounter with a joint team of police, army, and paramilitary CRPF in Baramulla district on Saturday, according to police officials.
SSP Baramulla Amod Nagpure said they had received information about some suspicious movement in KarhamaKunzer area of the district and accordingly a cordon and search operation was launched.
"During the cordon and search operation, one LeT terrorist was killed in retaliatory firing." "He has been identified as AbidWani, son of Mohd Rafiq Wani, from YarholBabapora Kulgam," he said.
A police spokesman said acting on a specific input regarding the presence of terrorists in Karhama, Kunzer area of Baramulla, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (2nd RR) and CRPF (176 Bn) in the said area.
"During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” he said.
 The spokesperson said that in the ensuing encounter, a local terrorist linked with proscribed terrorist outfit LeT was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter.
"Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 AK-47 rifle were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation", he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that 03 LeT terrorists have been killed during the past 48 hours in Baramulla district in two separate operations.
Meanwhile in this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at the encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any, the spokesman said.
Earlier on May 03, two terrorists were killed when an encounter took place after the security forces foiled an infiltration bid near the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of Kupwara district.
These encounters took place at a time when Kashmir is set to host the G20 meeting later this month. Security has been heightened across the Valley.
