Srinagar, July 06: A 4-year-old boy was mauled to death by a man-eater leopard in Rajpora village of Rajwar, in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, on Wednesday.

According to locals, the minor was playing outside his home when a man-eating wild animal attacked him and dragged him for about half a kilometre towards the forest.

The deceased has been identified as Mehraz Azad Mir, son of Azad Ahmad Mir, resident of Rajpora Rajwar.

According to officials, at 07:30 pm, a man-eating leopard attacked a 4-year-old child. When he was with his grandparents, playing on the house lawn, suddenly a tiger appeared from somewhere, caught the child, and ran towards the forest.

After hearing the rumble, locals assembled and ran towards the forest to save the baby from the tiger.

After searching for more than 20 minutes, they found the tiger half a mile away from the attack site in the bushes, carrying the child in its mouth.

Somehow, people snatched the children from the brutality. The situation for the children was very critical. The children were taken to a hospital for treatment where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, the locals of the area have sought the immediate trap of a man-eating leopard.

An official from wildlife told Rising Kashmir that a team of officials will be sent to the area to catch the wild animal.

They have also appealed to people to take extra care while stepping out in the area.
