JAMMU, Feb 19: The land in around one  Km area of Duksar, Dalwa, Sangaldan areas of Gool sub division of Ramban district has started sinking and so far thirteen   houses have been damaged after which the families have been shifted to safer places, official sources informed.
The worrying aspect is that the sinking of land in the Duksar Dalwa Panchayat in Gool sub division of Ramban is still going on in the one km area, which is a cause of much more grave concern, the sources informed.
“Our immediate concern is that whether this sinking of land will continue or will it stop at some point,” Deputy Commissioner (DC), Ramban, Mussarat Islam said to Rising Kashmir.
Sensing urgency of the situation, sources informed that the Ramban district administration has shot a letter to the Geological Survey of India (GSI), the Railways and the GREF authorities to immediately visit the area and ascertain the causes of land sinking so that the situation is prevented from becoming bad to worse.
"A portion of land has sunk and whether it is due to tectonic shift or some other reason is to be ascdrtained,” the DC said adding, “the matter is serious and that is why we have requested the GSI, the Railways and the GREF authorities to visit the spot to conduct survey and ascertain the causes”.
Meanwhile, sources informed that the motor-able road in the  area has also been damaged after which the alternate road has been opened in Samban area of Ramban for vehicular movement.
Sources informed that sinking of land has also happened 50 years back. The DC however, said that the sinking of land in Duksar, Dalwa, Sangaldan areas of Gool sub division of Ramban is in no way related to sinking of land at Ramsoo.
“At Ramsoo, the land sinking was due to construction work but here at Duksar, Dalwa, Sangaldan areas there is no construction work going on,” and that is why “we have requested the GSI, the Railways and the GREF authorities to visit the area and assess the causes”.
The sources also said that in 2022, Ramban witnessed rainfall more than 4 times as compared to the past some years which also could be one of the reasons for sinking of land.
All this is to be assessed by the experts of GSI, Railways and the GREF authorities and that is why we have requested them to visit the spot immediately, the DC said.
