Kulgam, Apr 08: The residents of Frisal town  in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district are facing inconvenience due to the non-availability of ATMs in the area.
The locals told Rising Kashmir that despite being notified by the municipality, the issue has not been addressed, forcing them to travel long distances to access banking services.
The residents said they have to either travel to other areas or personally visit the bank for withdrawing cash.
“We have several times appealed to the concerned authorities to install an ATM here, but nothing has happened so far,” said Ghulam Hassan, a local.
He said Frisal has a Degree College and is a tehsil headquarters, with shoppers from a dozen villages coming here on a regular basis, but there is not even a single ATM facility.
Another local said the government is making efforts for cashless transactions in the rest of the world while this area does not have even an ATM. “For transactions, we have to visit 5 kilometres to either Yaripora, Bijbehara or Qaimoh,” he said.
A J&K Bank representative told Rising Kashmir that the bank has already sanctioned an ATM for the area, but no one is ready to rent a space for it.
“J&K Bank has already sanctioned an ATM for Frisal, but we need an undisputed shop where we can install the ATM,” he said, adding, “As of yet, no land has been allocated to the bank for it. We only need a space and the bank will perform the rest of the interior work.”
