Srinagar, Sept 29: On the directions of the Transport Commissioner J&K, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) RTO Kashmir under the supervision of the RTO Kashmir and ARTO Flying Squad Muazzam Ali Shah conducted an enforcement drive across various locations in Srinagar district.
The operation focused on curbing traffic violations and ensuring compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act and Rules. During the drive, more than 215 vehicles were checked, out of which 33 were e-challaned for various offences. The expected amount from the challans has been estimated at Rs 1.22 lakh. Several vehicles were also seized on the spot.
ARTO Kashmir said that he, along with DySP Traffic City Srinagar Mehboob-ul-Haq and their teams, jointly carried out the drive to address traffic violations. He added that many offenders were identified and action was taken immediately. He further stated that the effort was a coordinated move by the MVD and Traffic Police to strengthen road safety, especially at a time when the city has witnessed a rise in accidents.
Referring to the recent incident at Tagmarag involving a school bus, the ARTO said that his team visited the school but found it closed. However, after meeting the administration, it was found that out of 19 school buses, 14 had expired fitness certificates. Although the renewal fees had been paid, the buses were not produced for inspection. Consequently, the department has blacklisted these buses.
A Traffic Police official said that their personnel remain on the roads continuously to spread awareness among both two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers. He added that despite repeated counselling, many people do not follow rules, leaving the police with no option but to seize vehicles. The official urged the public to drive responsibly, wear seat belts, and use helmets while riding two-wheelers to protect their lives.
The authorities said such enforcement drives will continue in the coming days to ensure strict adherence to traffic rule
