Srinagar, Nov 25: National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE), the broad-based united platform of all National Federation of Electricity Employees and Engineers, has called for a general strike on 26th November against proposed Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2020 , scrapping of standard bidding document for privatisation of electricity and for withdrawal of process of privatization of electricity in states and UTs including cancellation of all existing privatisation and franchises in the power sector.Â
In solidarity with NCCOEEE, All Jammu & Kashmir Power Engineers and Employees Coordination Committee (JKPEECC) will observe two hour protest from 1 pm to 2 pm across Jammu and Kashmir on November 26Â at their respective work places.
Privatization of rlectricity is in no way for power sector reforms and will impact adversely upon poor domestic consumers, medium and small industries and poor farmers. The central government is out to destroy the power sector of country despite the fact that during the COVID-19 crisis, only the public sector companies stood by the Government, while the private sector is nowhere visible in this bad time in the country.
All the Power Engineers and Employees of J&K believe that the proposed amendments are not backed up by the sufficient application of the mind. The centre should therefore refrain from going ahead with this amendment.
JKPEECC in one voice opposes the proposal of central government move regarding privatization of DISCOMS in Union Territories.
