Srinagar, Nov 30: In a significant development aimed at boosting the required power demand in UT during the winter season, Jammu and Kashmir will soon receive an additional 293 Megawatts (MW) of power from the central government from December 1.
The Principal Secretary of the Power Development Department, H. Rahesh Prasad, confirmed the allocation, emphasizing its timeliness for meeting the rising energy demands.
Prasad highlighted that this allocation supplements the recent procurement of 500 MW, demonstrating the government's proactive approach to address the winter power requirements.
He expressed hope in the sufficiency of the power supply and underscored that the focus would now shift to revenue collection.
The decision to secure an extra 500 MW was ratified by the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Sunday. The move is aimed at bridging the gap between winter demand and power availability.
The Administrative Council, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, greenlit a new Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between J&K Power Corporation Limited and the NTPC for the Singrauli-III power station.
This strategic move is expected to alleviate the energy demand in Jammu and Kashmir, which has been steadily increasing at a compound annual growth rate of 10%. As the region gears up for the winter season, this enhanced power supply is set to make a substantial impact on sustaining energy needs.
