Budgam, Dec 15: The authorities in central Kashmir’s Budgam district have started the process of providing potable water facilities to schools, health centres and Anganwadi centres under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) programme.
The coordinator of the Project Management Unit Jal Jeevan Mission (Budgam), Mudasir Ahmad, told Rising Kashmir that under the programme, 112 educational institutions have received portable water supplies across the district. In the PHE Division Chadoora, 36 educational institutions have been provided portable water supply connections, and in the PHE Division Budgam, 76 schools have been covered under the mission.
Mudasir said 82 Anganwadi centres have been provided with drinking water supplies across the district. The health centres, where there was a shortage of water supply, have also been given drinking water supplies under the programme, he added.
“Currently, we have 160 schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission in the two PHE divisions of Chadoora and Budgam, which comprise 295 works. These 295 works have already been allotted, and most of the works have already been started across Budgam,” the coordinator said, adding, “Under these 160 schemes, 7 borewells, 13 overhead water tanks, 50 water filtration plants, 225 pipe networks and allied works will be completed under the Jal Jeevan Mission programme.”
Under the JJM programme, proper drinking water supply connections have been provided to various villages of Budgam district which had been facing such shortages, he added.
