IUST hosts One-day capacity building workshop on implementation of NEP-2020 in Polytechnic Colleges

Awantipora, March 10: Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organized One-day capacity building workshop on implementation of NEP-2020 in Polytechnic Colleges of J&K which was attended by faculty members, including HODs from different polytechnics representing their engineering departments (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical/Computer Engineering/Architecture). The objective of the workshop was to discuss the various steps needed to make polytechnics in J&K compliant with NEP-2020 and was sponsored by the Department of Skill Development J&K.
 
Speaking on the occasion Dean Research IUST, Prof. A.H Moon emphasized the importance of the workshop and highlighted the recommendations of the expert committee set up by the Government of J&K, chaired by Prof. Shakil Romshoo, Vice Chancellor IUST, to recommend the transfer of academic credits from Polytechnics to Engineering colleges in the UT.
 Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Malik IUST, Registrar IUST, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Deans of the Schools, HODs, Directors of various centers and other officials of the University also attended the programme. Prof. A.H Moon shared the roadmap about restructuring of polytechnic curriculum in light of the model course curriculum of AICTE and recommendations of NEP-2020 with regard to vocationalization and skilling programs, setting up of ABC and transfer of credits.
 
Prof. Manzoor Malik highlighted the role of acquiring skills suitable for new age industry. Prof. Naseer Iqbal remarked that IUST has already taken a number of steps to make the University NEP-2020 ready.
 
The HODs of various engineering departments at IUST made presentations on mapping of curriculum at diploma and pointed out that more than 50% of core engineering courses taught at the diploma engineering level have more than 90% of mapping with each other in terms of content.
