International Clinical Trials Day is observed on May 20 every year. It’s an opportunity to raise awareness of Clinical Trials – and of clinical research as a career option for the young professionals.

Theme: Decentralised clinical trials: Making Clinical trials more accessible?

Decentralised Clinical Trials: Challenges and Opportunities will be the theme of International Clinical Trial Day in 2023. On May 23, 2023, it will be co-hosted by the Polish Medical Research Agency and ECRIN (European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network), a scientific partner from Poland.

Decentralised clinical trials

By reducing the need for participants to travel to study sites, decentralised clinical trials seek to make clinical trials more accessible to patients. Real-time, remote data collecting using digital health technology can give the trial vital information while preserving patient protection and privacy. Decentralised clinical trial implementation has benefited greatly from the COVID-19 epidemic, and numerous parties, including regulatory authorities, are trying to produce recommendations and best practises to protect patients and their data in this new research model.

Every year on May 20, Clinical Trials Day is commemorated to commemorate the date in 1747 when James Lind carried out the first randomised clinical investigation. Take a moment on Clinical Trials Day to honour the achievements of clinical research experts in medicine and public health by praising their work on clinical trials. A day to thank clinical research professionals for their work in advancing public health is also observed on this day. The intention is to make this the main topic of interest for meetings, conferences, celebrations, and other forms of international contact during this time.

How to celebrate International Clinical Trails Day

Clinical Trails is one of the most effective ways to find treatments that can help cure certain diseases or help improve certain bodily functions. Specialists who conduct clinical studies often need people to conduct these tests. They're safe and you usually get paid, so if you want to help with medical science, you can sign up to be included in a clinical trial today. You can raise awareness online and in the workplace by downloading posters, selfie signs and all sorts from the official Clinical Trails Day website.

History of clinical trials day

This day has a long and illustrious history, as it commemorates and commemorates an event that occurred hundreds of years ago, in the 1700s, to be exact. In 1747, a surgeon named James Lind was serving on the H.M.S. Salisbury, which was a ship in the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom. The ship’s seamen were patrolling the English Channel at a time when it was not uncommon for them to be struck down by the feared scurvy and, in some cases, to die as a result of it. Scurvy is a crippling condition that is primarily brought on by a vitamin C deficiency. Most people with gum disease who pass away do so as a result of an infection the disease and the bleeding it produce causes.

James Lind, a pioneer in naval hygiene, believed he had figured out how to treat it — but he needed proof. As a result, he gathered a group of 12 affected males to whom he administered his test, which included some citrus fruits and others that were not. Lind assigned two men to each of six distinct daily treatments for a total of fourteen days without disclosing the mechanism by which he made the selection. 1.1 litters of cider; 25 millilitres of elixir vitriol (diluted sulphuric acid); 18 millilitres of vinegar three times throughout the day before meals; half a pint of seawater; two oranges and one lemon consumed daily for six days only (or until the supply was exhausted); and a medicinal paste consisting of garlic, mustard seed, dried radish root, and gum myrrh were used as treatment. According to Lind’s assessment of the research, those who were given citrus fruits reported the most immediate and noticeable impacts. This was the first clinical trial conducted.

Clinical trials are trials in which certain drugs or supplements are tested by monitoring the effects between patients who have already taken the drug and patients who have taken a smaller dose or taken no medicine at all. The pathways were taken within a set time frame, and the patients selected for them were retested for the most accurate results possible. International Clinical Trials Day is about raising awareness about these trails, how they save lives, and their importance to the medical profession and advancing medical research.
