238 persons held, 211 vehicles seized in Budgam this year: Police

Srinagar, Dec 04:  Police on Sunday said that they arrested 238 persons and seized 211 vehicles involved in the illegal extraction, and transportation of minerals in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
A police official said so far this year, they have arrested 238 persons, 211 vehicles were seized and 92 FIRs have been registered for illegal excavation and transportation of minerals in the district.
He said continuous efforts have been made to safeguard the natural resources in the district and police cracked down heavily on illegal excavators and transporters in the area.
Briefing about the details, the official said at Police Station Budgam, they have registered 32 cases,70 persons were arrested and 62 vehicles were seized.
He said in the Khansahib area, 09 cases were registered and 14 persons were arrested and 14 vehicles were seized.
In Police Station Magam, 06 cases,28 persons were arrested, and 11 vehicles have been seized so far this year.
In the Beerwah division, in 39 cases, 85 persons were arrested and 88 vehicles were seized in the 2022 year.
Similarly, in Police Station Khag o4 persons were arrested and 04 vehicles were seized in Chadoora,15 cases were registered, 37 persons were arrested and 32 vehicles were seized this year.
The official said persons found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt with as per law.
“Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighborhood with their concerned police units,” he said.
