MeT predicts widespread rains today

Srinagar, April 20: After remaining dry weather for more than two days, the meteorological department Tuesday predicted another spell of widespread rains in plains while light snowfall over higher reaches in Kashmir on Wednesday.

Deputy Director Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that under the influence of intense Western Disturbances, there is the possibility of scattered to widespread rains in plains and light snowfall in higher reaches on Wednesday.

“We are expecting scattered to widespread rain, thunderstorm and snowfall over higher reaches in Kashmir over next 24 hours in the valley,” he said.

The Deputy Director urged farmers not to spray their orchards on Wednesday as weather will remain mostly disturbed till Thursday morning.

As per weather department officials, Srinagar recorded a low of 7.2°C against 7.6°C on Monday night. Ski resort Gulmarg, in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 1.0°C.  Pahalgam minus 1.4 as the minimum temperature respectively.

Following the landslides, the traffic on Jammu Srinagar highway was suspended for some hours on Tuesday.

 As per traffic advisory issued by the traffic department states that there will be no traffic on the highway on Wednesday in view of road maintenance.

Meanwhile, Mughal road, connecting Shopian and Poonch districts is still closed following government orders.
